Fannin County Attractions and Things to do in Blue Ridge Georgia
LAKES, FISHING, BOATING, WHITEWATER (WATER SPORTS)

Part of Fannin County and the North Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains' appeal is the abundance of beautiful, natural lakes and rivers. Many of the locations throughout the county are part of the Chattahoochee National Forest and have been pristinely kept to ensure future generations can enjoy the gorgeous waters and serene sounds of the rivers and lakes. The lakes and rivers also provide many opportunities to get out and enjoy the mountains by going fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and whitewater rafting.

One of the most popular lakes in Georgia, Lake Blue Ridge, is a 3,290 acre lake with beautiful aquamarine waters, and plenty of outdoor recreation on its surrounding shoreline. With the Chattahoochee National Forest comprising much of the land surrounding the lake, Lake Blue Ridge is a popular location for fishing enthusiasts, families and those seeking fun on the water. Bass, catfish, perch, crappie, bream and the rare Walleye fish are what fishermen are looking for. In fact, Lake Blue Ridge is the only lake south of the Great Lakes where you can catch a Walleye fish.

Whitewater rafters and kayak enthusiasts get a thrill out of going down the Ocoee River, the portion of the Toccoa River that receives a name change as it gets close to the borders of the Tennessee state line. The Ocoee River flows out of Lake Blue Ridge and provides whitewater rafters with plenty of rapids. There are portions of the river that are appropriate for beginners and more challenging areas where experienced rafters can enjoy class IV+ rapids.

The Toccoa River Canoe Trail is a popular canoeing spot, and the trail takes you under the famous 265 foot Toccoa River bridge. The Toccoa River trail is a much calmer part of the river, and a better choice for those who want to enjoy the picturesque landscapes along the shoreline.

For those who enjoy the natural art the water, rivers and streams create, take a moment and stop by one of the many waterfalls in the area. Some of the most popular ones are the Jack River Falls, in the Cohutta Wilderness Area, Sea Creek Falls and the Falls Branch Falls which you can see along the Benton Mackaye hiking trail. These waterfalls flow from the Toccoa and Ocoee Rivers and are easily found by visitors and residents of the area. Some of the most beautiful pictures of the region are of the stunning waterfalls found here.
